Best Experiments:
This category received the most submissions, so we selected one winner from each grade.
Katherine M. (8), who tested the effects of temperature on the rate that candy dissolves in liquid.
Kalliope A. (7), who tested an analogue for the glucose-based "antifreeze" solution that enables wood frogs to survive being frozen in winter.
Declan D. (6), who swabbed rooms in his house and grew the resulting bacteria in petri dishes to determine the dirtiest room.
Best Research Project:
Finley T. (6), who shared her impassioned learnings about the critically-endangered vaquita porpoise.
Best Engineering Design Project:
CW W. (4), who learned to weld and build electronic circuits to construct an automated soda can opener.
Best Experiment:
Lucas B. (4), who tested the wet-or-dry food preferences of 18 different cats.
Best Research Project:
Karina K. (5), who studied the geographic distribution of bird species across the Earth.
